In Spring 2026, the SVBGSA completed a series of feasibility studies and technical investigations evaluating the projects and management actions needed to meet the Sustainable Management Criteria established in the Groundwater Sustainability Plans (GSPs) for the six Salinas Valley subbasins.
This technical work is being translated into policy through the Integrated Implementation Strategy (IIS) — a process for evaluating combinations of projects and management actions across the Salinas Valley. Rather than assessing individual projects in isolation, the IIS evaluates scenarios that reflect the hydraulic connectivity of the subbasins and the need for coordinated solutions.
In August 2026, the SVBGSA Board of Directors will select a preferred implementation pathway to guide the Salinas Valley toward long-term groundwater sustainability.
The IIS process involves three key steps:
- SVBGSA staff develop integrated implementation scenarios based on the technical studies
- The Advisory Committee reviews scenarios, gathers public input, and develops recommendations
- The Board of Directors considers Advisory Committee recommendations before selecting the preferred implementation scenario
