Groundwater Monitoring Program poised to expand in the Salinas Valley Basin

The Groundwater Monitoring Program is a partnership between the Salinas Valley Basin Groundwater Sustainability Agency and the Monterey County Water Resources Agency to improve the collection and storage of regional groundwater data.

Pending approval from the Board of Supervisors, the MCWRA’s ordinance will require all wells in the Salinas Valley Groundwater Basin to be registered with the MCWRA. Those wells extracting more than 2 acre-feet per year for domestic use (i.e. non-de minimis) will also need to report extraction to MCWRA.

The key goal is to have accurate and timely information about groundwater conditions for effectively managing water resources. Learn more about the Groundwater Monitoring Program and how it impacts groundwater users within the Salinas Valley Basin boundaries.
