Learn about the Multibenefit Land Repurposing Program

Multibenefit Land Repurposing Program (MLRP) is one solution in the larger effort to overcome water scarcity and groundwater overuse in California. MLRP offers the opportunity for agricultural landowners to access state and other funding sources to proactively transition their land (or portion of their land) to a less water intensive use.

Landowners interested in voluntarily retiring their land will be fairly compensated for doing so. Lands acquired by the program can be be used for things like:

  • Floodplain restoration
  • Stormwater capture and reuse
  • Recharge basin
  • Treatment wetland
  • Riparian corridor enhancement
  • Parks and open space
