Salinas Valley Subbasins Map

This tutorial demonstrates how to access and use the web map. For additional information, consult the PDF GSP Web Map User Guide.

The GSP map can be accessed through a link on the SVBGSA website. Once you click the link, you’ll be taken to a login page. Enter the following:

  • Email: SalinasValley@SVBGSA.org
  • Password: Salina_Hydro

Click Sign In. The map may take a few seconds to load.

Logging into the map allows users to visualize, search, and export data.

Layers

The Layers tab allows users to turn layers on and off, including MCWA-owned and USGS stream gauges with time data, as well as other GIS data such as water levels, contours, geology, and boundaries. Clicking a layer name shows source information. Clicking a feature opens a pop-up with attribute data.

Base Maps

Under the Base tab, users can select which base map to view, such as switching from a topographic map to imagery.

Data Queries

Under the Data tab, users can query records. For example, to search MCs starting with “14S,” type “14S.” Choose whether to search all fields or a specific field. You can search the whole data layer, only the visible area, or a selected/drawn area.

Search results allow users to select all records, select none, or choose specific records. Data can be exported to a CSV file and opened in Excel. To export only selected records, choose “Export selected data.”

Labels

Selected records can be labeled. Choose a field (such as station name) and click Apply to display labels on the map.

Time Series

The Time Series tab allows users to create graphs for water level, pumping, water quality, and surface water flow data. Wells and stream gauges can be selected from the Add Station dropdown or from pop-ups.

Users can:

  • Select averaging periods
  • Choose parameters and measurement units
  • Create charts using the Charts button

Charts include legends, hover data points, data tables, export to Excel, and print to PDF.

To show multiple stations on one chart, add additional wells, adjust settings, select “All stations on same chart,” and click Create Charts.

Measurement Tools

The Measurement tab allows users to:

  • Measure area
  • Measure distance
  • Determine coordinates (latitude/longitude)

Choose units, draw on the map, and view results. Click the tool again to clear measurements.

Export

The Export tab allows users to download raw data. Choose to download:

  • Station locations (wells and USGS gauges)
  • Water level or pumping time series data

Click Export Dataset to download a CSV file for use in Excel or another program.
