The salinas river next to an agricultural field

The Castroville & Eastside Canals and Alternatives Feasibility Study is now available for review. This study shows opportunities to divert excess surface water from the Salinas River to raise groundwater levels and help address seawater intrusion.

The study builds on the concept of using pipelines, instead of canals, to move high flows from the river into the 180/400, Eastside and Langley subbasins. The water would then percolate into the aquifer, be treated and injected into the aquifer, or treated and delivered for irrigation. The study also includes an evaluation of water rights options, a review of historical documents, and the identification of viable project components for potential surface water diversion opportunities.
